When was the last time you took a mental health day?
By now, I’m sure many of us have seen the viral email above. This email exchange and the larger internet response was filled with hearts and likes worldwide. In time where more is demanded, work hours are getting a little hazy, and work/life balance is turning into work is life and life is work; where do we draw the line? When is it ‘okay’ to pump the breaks and disconnect from anything that ties you to work for a little while?
If I learned anything while living abroad it is that we must work to live, not live to work. So I ask you again, when is the last time you took a mental health day? An important part about maintaining your lifestyle is knowing when it’s out of balance. In the business world we are barreling into Q4 and I have been able to sense the stress, anxiety and exhaustion across the board (myself included). Although I haven’t taken a mental health day in a while, I’m sure if I don’t soon I’ll be worrying about more than a just a work life balance.
Remember: Similar to being sick, if you are mentally exhausted you are not as productive as you could be which could hurt not only your performance by your health too.
