As you begin a new chapter or journey in life, it’s easier and more inspiring to have people in your corner who are entirely for you.People who genuinely support and cheer you along the way. Embarking on new territories whether personally or professionally often causes a shift among the people around us. You begin to see who is really for you and who is simply around waiting to watch you fail. The older I get, the more I do not have the time to invest my energy into people who will never be for me. And I’m OK with knowing that not all will like me, and not all will pray for my success. Seeking approval from others, and waiting on them to clap for you at the sound of every good thing you attain is just energy consuming.
Some people just can’t handle the idea of you being successful. The mere thought of you shining amidst difficult times or chasing your dreams breeds jealousy and envy in them. But don’t worry, none of it is your fault. Simply chalk it up to their own insecurities. Like Mandela said, “You playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people will not feel insecure around you”.
So, keep shining and keep doing you boo! Never, ever for a second, waste energy in trying to seek approval or validation from others.
Three women going through life.
