Two years ago, three black women living and working in three different states had a dream: to create a space dedicated to educating, motivating and inspiring women to become the architects of their own lives. We were unsure of the level of impact that our blog would have, but we knew that we could add to the growing conversation on authenticity. 2015 was a challenging year for the three of us. One of us was still trying to land in the right post graduation job, one was settling into a new role and the other trying to find her joy post breakup. We were all at such different stages in our lives, and growing through these experiences, when we look back at when we began two years ago it seems like a distant dream.
We moved from one state to another for work and ended relationships that diminished our value. We required more of ourselves and held each other to higher standards. We celebrated each other's wins and were there for each other’s losses. We slowly began to realize that this was what being fearless was: living your life authentically regardless of who was watching and of what life threw your way.
We came together knowing that we wanted to share our lived experiences with other women who were going through similar milestones and those that hadn’t made it to where we were yet. Blogging for us became a tool that allowed us to be our authentic selves. We were determined to leave it all in our posts. Many times we wrote because it was cathartic and when we were done pouring our emotions to paper, we felt lighter. Blogging became our escape. We used this medium to share our hopes, dreams and desires. We wrote about an array of topics ranging from ideal vacations, the perfect gifts and how to even enjoy life as you wait for the man that God is bringing in your life.
We blogged because it was a way to remind ourselves that we were growing and that growth was and will always be a part of the process no matter how challenging the day may seem. We pushed each other to write more honestly and really expose the hurt that was holding us back. We blogged because we realized that maybe one of our readers might appreciate our vulnerability. This is why thousands visit our site and hundreds of you are subscribed to our newsletter.
We blog because we realize that the men in our lives needed a female voice providing the inside scoop on how to treat the women and partners in their lives better. We shared everything from our favorite date night ideas to why we love men that travel. We shared why phuck boys frustrate us and how to ensure that you aren’t one! This was our letter to the men in our lives that usually starts with our two famous words: Dear Men ....
For every comment, like, share and repost - we are grateful. We appreciate all the feedback (both good and the constructive ones that are a little tougher to swallow) as it has caused us to stop and really think through who we are and why we are doing what we are doing. This keeps us current and ensures that we create content that is relevant to our readers.
After two years of blogging, we stand as three transformed women. We have undergone the process of working through many of our insecurities and have learned that at the end of the day nothing is worth compromising who you are. We explored over thirty countries combined and still possess that wanderlust that fires us up to travel to new shores. We have learned how to challenge and rely on our faith to see us through, and how your tribe is essential to your growth and sanity.
Through the lessons we have learned and the expectations we now have set, blogging has truly made us fearless. Share with us some of your favorite #TheFearlessSelf articles over the past 2 years.
