By now, you know how serious we are about our podcast game here at The Fearless Self. We have talked about podcasts that keep us sane during traffic, and our favorite self improvement ‘feel good’ podcasts. But today we will be discussing our top podcasts that keeps us informed.
So much of our world is changing very quickly. How can you stay current on events when executive orders are getting signed faster than a french manicure?! How do we determine what is fake and what is ‘real’? Listen y’all, we are open to your suggestions on this but here are our top current affairs podcasts:
Up First - this is a recent find for us. It’s one of my favorite podcasts as it couples two of my most valued characteristics in a podcast: brevity and information. I am an absolute fan of this brief 13 minute podcast that provides a ‘run-down’ of what is going on in the world right when you wake up. Have you listened to this before? Let us know what you think!
Planet Money - we have referenced this podcast before but is still worth mentioning especially for those of us that didn’t take a microeconomics class. This podcasts breaks down and debunks the economics changes that are taking place in the United States at the moment. One of their most recent episodes is called #BOTUS. The Planet Money team sets out to use a robot to buy and sell stocks based on President Trump’s tweets.
NPR Politics Podcast - this is the motherload of podcasts for current affairs in the United States. We turn to this podcast when we have more time in the morning while getting ready for work. We don’t know about you, but there is something about the reputation of and reporting by this NPR team that we find very credible. Now, as you can tell, we aren’t basing our complete perspective on current affairs on these three podcasts!
We look to international news stations like France24, Aljazeera, or BBC. This is how we vet what we hear. We get information from multiple sources, as nowadays more than ever, it is critical to be critical of news sources.
How do you stay current with what’s going on in the world today? Do you listen to any of these podcasts? Which one’s are your favorites?
