Yes, what others say about us can affect not only how we are perceived but also(maybe even more dangerously), how we see ourselves. If you have turned on the television and watched any news channel lately, you know that being black in America is very challenging. From the shootings to the overt racism, it is difficult as a black person to continue to have high self-esteem. These images do not paint an encouraging picture about being black in America in 2016. This is why, more than ever, it is important to speak life over yourself.
Daily affirmations are positive words that you declare or say aloud. You can create your own affirmations, or you can do what I do - and use scripture verses as inspiration. Don’t wait for someone else to affirm you. You need to step up and more than ever believe in yourself. I start my day with daily affirmations of who I am and more importantly who God says I am – regardless of what the news reports that morning. Here are a couple of daily affirmations that I say as I start my day:
1. This is the day that the Lord has made. I will rejoice and be glad in it.
2. You are the apple of God’s eye.
3. You are the head and never the tail; above only and never beneath.
4. You are beautiful.
5. You are loved.
6. You are special.
7. You are kind.
8. You are going to make it.
9. You will touch everyone you meet with a smile, a hug or a kind word.
10. Blessings are your portion.
11. You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you.
The video below represents affirmations that I would love to share with my future children: Here is a mother – daughter video of their daily affirmations. This woman is so amazing that I know when her daughter walks out into this crazy world, she can carry these words that her mother speaks into her life:
Do you have any affirmations that you declare?
