In our previous post “Dreaming With Everything You Have”, we talked about how to take a leap of faith and chase your dreams, now we will shift gears a little and discuss how to be successful in whatever career goals you set for yourself. Let’s dive right in, shall we!
1. Stay In Your Lane Ms. Thang!
It is critical when on this journey, to remain FOCUSED! I have realized that the more I quiet the noise around me and simply adapt a tunnel vision when it comes to my career goals; the less distracted I feel and the more passionate I become in making sure my dreams come to fruition. So this means blocking any negative and unwarranted criticism about myself, putting God first and foremost in my daily plans, and staying in my lane! I can’t stress how important this is. Do not worry about “Sarah and Danielle”, just FOCUS on what you need to do to remain happy in life and achieve the career goals your heart desires. Remember this, what God has for you, will be for you no matter what, and in due time, when you stay FOCUSED, it will be made known to you.
2. Gather Your Tribe!
There is an old African Proverb that states, “if you want to go fast, go alone and if you want to go further, go together” and this can’t be any truer. Honestly, what’s really important to me is going further with my goals. At an earlier stage I knew in order to do this I need to surround myself with dynamic people who shared similar goals and dreams. It’s very important that you establish clear plans for yourself, hire the right people if you are trying to build a business, or associate yourself with people who have similar work ethics if you want to build a brand! It’s all about quality over quantity - as we continue to progress with The Fearless Self, we hope to venture out into other avenues of entrepreneurship and this can only be possible if we watch the company we keep! So ask yourself this - who are the people in your life that inspires you or hinder your growth? Then begin to gather your tribe
3. Keep On Trucking
This journey won’t always be filled with roses and opportunities. Sometimes you are going to feel let down, and frustrated and that’s ok. Trust me, I have been turned down from more career opportunities and interviews than I would like to count.I wallowed in my pity for a second but made sure I did not stay there. It’s important to realize that rejection is ok, it’s just means that wasn’t the opportunity God had in store for you. So pick yourself up by your bootstraps and keep on trucking! Go back to your vision board, strategize and just try again! Just because you are not attaining that bomb ass career you always dreamt off now, doesn’t mean it won’t happen! Be patient, it’s going to happen when it’s supposed to!
4. Be mindful of your time
Ahh this is extremely vital! The most precious thing we have in life is our time- so spend it wisely! Don’t work your regular 9 to 5 job and spend time building other people’s dreams and forget to allocate your time to watering your own dreams. We all have 24 hours in a day and if Beyoncé can do it, so can you!! So turn off that TV, and put in the hard work and diligence that it takes to achieve success. Otherwise one day you will regret not going after that which you are passionate about.
5. Say No to complacency
Alright, so I am usually up for any opportunity that can allow me to sustain my livelihood while working towards my BIG Career Goals! However, I have realized that while doing this you can easily become complacent and lose sight of the big picture. So sometimes it’s ok to say NO to opportunities that may steer you from your path. Not all opportunities are good, ya know what I mean! So ask yourself these questions:
We hope these tips help you while on your journey, and provide you with some really great opportunities, connections and everything in between
