Do you have a Champagne taste but you live on a sparkling cider budget? Sadly only a few people in this world have immense access to a lot of money. Most of us have to live within our means and budget. So how do you live on a budget and still enjoy your life?
Whether you would like to attend your favorite artist’s concert, travel to exotic locations, enjoy creative staycations and celebrate the special events in your life, check out these 4 easy tips to help you save money, while creating the beautiful life you want.
1. Cut back on your living situation
I know you want to live on your own and enjoy the freedom of owning your own spot. However, sometimes you have to slow your roll and realistically recognize your financial state. A great alternative to reducing your living cost is living with a roommate, either one or two will work just fine. This will help you cut rent, and utilities in half especially if you are living in a pricier apartment. It also helps you save money, while affording you the ability to splurge a little on a trip with your girls.
2. Stop shopping for shopping sake
You have to recognize that your father isn’t Bill Gates, so stop spending money that you don’t have. It is so tempting to want to go shopping for clothes, shoes, purses etc. with your friends. I mean they are all doing it and you don’t want to be left out. However, “it’s important to cut your coat according to your own measurement”—meaning recognize that you and your friends aren’t in the same financial boat. They may be more financially stable than you are, so it's best to be honest with yourself and walk away from such tempting situations. Heck if you must buy, turn to a cheaper off brand alternative. That way you spend less and can still save your coins to go to that Beyonce concert you have been dying to attend.
3. Try alleviating some daily expenses
Try cutting down on your monthly expenses. Opt out from adding a cable bill to your expenses and maybe settle for internet services in the meantime. Nowadays, a lot of channels have online streaming services so you won’t miss out on your favorite shows. Also, if you can’t afford a regular phone plan? Try signing up for no contract, month to month plans. Got a gym membership? Why don’t you do away with that, and take a walk or go running in your neighborhood. Lastly, try eating at home often instead of brunching or dining out every weekend. Applying these tips in your life will ease the monthly pressure on your wallet, allowing you to treat yourself really well on your birthday or on other special life occasions. You deserve it!
4. Have friends who share the same mentality
There’s nothing I cringe more than being around people with a ‘broke mentality’. You know, the ones who are waiting on the perfect time to experience life. The ones who need to have a certain amount of money in their bank account before they can do anything. People like this will always hold you back from truly experiencing all the beauty that life has to offer. I am all about setting realistic financial goals and living within your means but I’m also for not allowing your financial state to cripple your experiences or serve as a clutch to living a miserable life. You will never have all the money you need, and if you keep waiting, life will pass you by.
That’s why it’s important to surround yourself with friends or lovers who share an optimistic mentality. If you can’t afford to buy that plane ticket to go somewhere, have friends who will say let’s take a road trip, we can chip in on gas and experience a neighboring country on a budget. Can’t afford to go to an exotic island with your love? Have your boyfriend plan a beautiful day at the beach in your own city or state just for the two of you. Remember to never limit yourself nor allow your financial circumstance to stop you from creating the life that you deserve.
