My Travel Musts: The Essentials

I used to have trouble packing. I would always over pack or forget the essentials. However, I have begun crafting a packing method for the madness. Any Fearless traveler knows that there is always a method to the madness. Most people I know worry about their clothes first when packing, I on the other hand worry about my essentials:
Passport: While I’m not always traveling out of the country, when I travel I tend to carry it as my main form of ID.  I’ve become so accustomed to traveling with it I feel empty without it.

A Book: No matter where I’m going there is always a book along for the ride. Traveling is the perfect time to catch up on your reading and escape while you’re sitting on a bus, train or plane. However, choose ONE book to bring. I am guilty of trying to pack 3-4 books in the past and there’s really no need or time for that.
A notebook: I’m a writer, I always carry around notebooks for notes, doodles, ideas, new places or foods. As I travel, I try to take down all that I can. Notebooks also help me remain organized in case I get a call and need to jot down important information.

Pens and Highlighters: In my opinion, this is a given. In life it’s important to always carry a pen around. I use my writing utensils for annotation in my books, to write in my notebooks and fill out any forms provided throughout my travels (immigration, etc).

My wallet: Because… Money?

My phone: In this day and age you cannot go anywhere without your cellular device. I use my phone to take notes when I cannot grab my notebook in time, look up directions, plan itineraries, and take photos until I get my official camera.

My watch: In the off chance that  the power goes out or my phone dies, I need to always be aware of the time. When traveling, it’s important to be aware of the time so you can ensure you have enough time fill your day, while still making it to your next meeting or train accordingly.

Sunglasses: I believe sunglasses are required regardless of the season. Just try not to wear them inside. Sunglasses add a sense of mystery and upgrade to an outfit in a matter of seconds.

Have different must haves? What do you prep first when you travel?
