“I am not a product of my circumstances. I am a product of my decisions” -Stephen Covey
No matter where you are in your career, chances are you've probably experienced the “in between stage” before. This is the stage of life where your dreams come to a sudden halt and you are left wondering when your next breakthrough will come. Professionally, you do everything humanly possible to land your big career break; from sprucing up your resumes, to sending out thousands of job applications and attending nerve- wracking networking events. And everyone you end up meeting tells you “it’s going to happen soon, be patient and keep doing what you are doing”.
However, you know that “it’s going to happen soon” just isn't a good enough answer. So you ask yourself what now? Well, you can either wallow in your current state or find proactive ways to cope with the “in-between” stage.
If you chose the latter, then you are my kind of person. The suggestions below, although they may seem pretty simple should not be underestimated in their effectiveness to yield positive results.
1. Be optimistic and keep busy
Fill your days with things you would like to accomplish. You can either volunteer or get involved with opportunities in your community. You just might end up picking up a new skill that could benefit you professionally.
2. Take Care of You
Just because you find yourself in the “in-between” stage doesn’t mean you should neglect yourself. Make sure to take care of you: pamper yourself and have a little fun with the girls. It's important to have the right mindset and remain happy during this period.
3. Believe in your own abilities
You have to believe in your own abilities to make a positive change in your life. Have faith and confidence in your own powers to be successful. Declare your value and know that you are an asset.
4. Relax and yes take it easy!
Remember that this is a temporary state and this too shall pass. As much as you hate hearing this over and over, eventually you will reap the benefits of your labor, So just hang in there!
