2016 was one hell of a year, full of teachable moments. Below are some of the things I learned throughout the year. Hopefully, some of my lessons will help you navigate life when things get a little difficult (each one teach one, right?).
Take baby steps: My 2016 was quite overwhelming. From deaths, to sickness, to break-ups, and ultimately make-ups; my entire world seemed to come crashing down this year. What I learned through it all was to take baby steps. If a relationship ends, let go of the hurt, if you find yourself needing medical attention, go out and seek it; if you lose a job, get yourself out there and put in applications.
Change the things that you do not like about yourself: Figure out the things you don’t like, and find out how you can change or do things differently. If you’ve been struggling with your diet or your fitness; change your eating habits, form a support group with your friends to help you stay accountable. Don’t be afraid to start with a new slate and let go of anything that no longer serves you.
Focus on your focus: Do not lose sight of your dreams and goals. Keep a to do list and jot down the things that you would like to accomplish each day and push yourself to get them done.
Keep an open mind and be flexible: Things fall apart so better things can fall together. Make sure that you keep an open mind and remain flexible. This way, when the right opportunity comes, you are open and ready for it.
Journal: One thing this year has taught me is being able to express myself through my journal entries. Writing down your thoughts allows you to develop clarity and gives you the insight you need to stir your life in the direction that you desire.
Learn to let go: For me, this year was centered around humility and forgiveness. No one is perfect. We all make mistakes but when people put an effort in ratifying a situation, you have to do your part in forgiving them. Forgiving and letting go allows you to have a peace of mind and not to be consumed with negativity and anger.
Have a positive attitude: The most important lesson of all. We can’t control life and what it brings. So, do not beat yourself up. Focus your energy towards bettering yourself and maintaining a positive outlook in life. New doors always open in difficult times.
