Remember when you had to carry five different boarding passes, all weather outfits, reduced how many clothes you could pack because you had to make room for books? Oh, and the mile long handwritten packing list that you had with you everyday until the hour before you flew out? Yeah, going back to that place just gives me palpitations!
Thank God for mobile applications (apps)! From the booking process to the arrival at your destination, traveling has become less of a chore and more a true leisure, in part, due to apps. As a frequent flyer, I would love to share some of my favorites with you! These apps make traveling not only easier but also ensure that both the journey and destination are filled with joy and relaxation.
Fly Delta App
I completely rely on this app for all my travels.
How It Works: everything from booking my flights, finding seats, changing seats, in-flight upgrades like onboard wifi are taken care of on this app. My favorite part about this app? Mobile check in! I love avoiding the check in lines when I don’t have any luggage! Depending on member status, this baby will get you faster access through security … You’re welcome!
Yahoo! Weather App
It’s always good to know what the weather is going to be where you are headed. I always add the city where I am traveling to as one of my saved cities and pack accordingly - no sense in carrying open-toed shoes to a Wisconsin winter or a faux fur coat to the Sahara … just saying!
How It Works: enter the city or zip code of interest and let the app do the rest. The app shows you a 5 or 10 day forecast along with predicted precipitation and even when the sun will rise! I just love the functionality of this app.
This is one of my favorite packing apps! Now, please don’t start judging and asking why I need a packing app … try it then come and find me … or leave a comment below of your experience with it!
How It Works: you key in the destination and the dates of travel and the app automagically generates a list on what needs to be packed based on temperature, duration of stay, and activities while at the location (leisure or business). So you type Istanbul from December 24 - January 1, type of trip is leisure, select activities and voila! Your list is ready down to contacts solution!
This is a to-do list app that I use to capture my random additional travel requirements. I use this app to remind me to pack a water bottle or to enumerate everything that goes into my toiletry bag - ear buds, makeup, emergen-c etc.
How It Works: you label a list based on what you are using it for. Mine are usually titled ‘things i will regret forgetting’ lol. Once you have the title, you are all set to build out your list. One of the perks of this app is that it can be used across all devices (if using Apple products) making syncing the most updated lists easier. You can also re-use lists so you don't have to re-type for each trip!
This is by far one of my favorite reading apps! I have it across all my devices and most certainly use it to catch up on my favorite reads. I’m currently low on fiction books as I’m concentrating on business related books #goals, so this app allows me to be flexible when reading more than one book at a time, which I constantly do!
How It Works: Purchase books through Amazon.com website or Search for book titles within the app. Amazon provides access to free books via the Kindle Lending Library or through Prime membership. Once purchased, these books become available across all devices upon syncing.
This app is one that I frequently use when reflecting during my flights. I believe that we should all have a moment where we can pause and reflect on what has taken place and what we are looking forward to.
How It Works: Once you start an entry, the app captures the date, time, weather and even the music you are listening to as you write! There is something about reflecting whilst on a flight that makes me more open to realizing my growth and change and also propels me to writing down the visions that I have for my future fearlessly!
