Have you ever gone to sleep, not ready to see the mornings? Sometimes, it’s hard to get up and face the next day. Whether you’re fighting a few demons, worried about when you are going to get your next check or socially exhausted; it can be easy to fall into the trap of dreading the next morning.
COnstantly Under Pressure
As millennials, we are constantly under pressure (self-inflicted or not) to have all of our ish together. Financially, physically, emotionally, spiritually, etc. Sometimes, the hours between 12am and 6am are our only true alone time. No texting, tweeting, live streaming or snapping. Just you, the silence and your thoughts. It can be a scary place, but it doesn’t have to be. I’ve been there - anxiety sets in and you’d rather roll over and go back to sleep (call in for a sick day) and not face the day ahead. While living in the dark sounds great at the time, we only have today to take full advantage of the gift of life in front of you. So, instead of thinking of the negative, come up with your morning to-do list.
This should be a list of 5 things that you do in the morning before you look at your email, social media or even text messages. By checking off this list first thing in the morning, you have already accomplished 5 things before you even truly started your day. That sense of accomplishment can help carry you through to having a day full of amazement and wonder versus a countdown to the next time you can get under the sheets.
You’ll find my morning to-do list below. Share with us yours and help us reclaim our mornings.
I do these 5 things every morning, no matter where I am or who I am with. They do not require much, and I have found that this habit helps me remember that I can jump over whatever hurdles today may bring and gaze a the wonders of today. So whether your top 5 starts with coffee or the gym, find a routine that is relevant to your needs and will make you want to get up in the morning and take on the day.
You never know what surprises are hiding around the bend.
