In today’s age of streaming media, there is no shortage of great music streaming companies. Depending on why and how you stream music you can be drawn to the likes of Apple Music, Pandora, Tidal, Spotify, Google Play... the list goes on. Recently, I have found myself in several discussions defending why Spotify is my music streaming service of choice. I have tried the other services however, every time I have to decide on which monthly subscription needs to go the others are out and my beloved Spotify is here to stay.
5 reasons I love Spotify:
The Look: I have always been drawn to darker colors—just ask my mother. Spotify’s black, gray, green and white brand colors allow it to remain in the background of my computer without causing too much noise. It is sleek and different then most of my other apps and documents. I enjoy its individuality.
Options: Spotify allows me to not only save particular songs, but also artists, playlists, genres and local files on my computer. Not that the other streaming services don’t provide this but it is something that I enjoy.
Separation: Spotify focuses on the music. I am a strong believer in the idea of ‘church and state’. Therefore, I like that Spotify is not trying to take over my entire media experience. While some people may enjoy their movies, shows, books, pictures etc. all on one service I like that I know that Spotify is for my music just like Instagram is for my photos and Netflix is for my TV/movie needs. I don’t have to worry about Apple taking over my entire life (even though it currently has a strong hold).
Options Part 2: I love that I can jump from a list of Spanish music I’ve never heard to New and upcoming neo-soul hits. The options are limitless in what I can listen to on Spotify, and the idea of creating stations based on mood really helps to make a switch very easily if I was working to Mellow Bars and wanted to switch to clean and get ready for the night to Soca 2016.
Loyalty: Finally, I have been using Spotify for a few years now and I haven’t found a reason to change. Although there are times I cannot find a particular song that’s what the Internet is for. Spotify also has a history of showing love to indie artists that wouldn’t usually get recognition on some of the other services.
Don’t agree or have reasons I should try one of the other streaming apps? State your case in the comments and if you are persuasive enough I’ll give it a try!
