I’ll keep this succinct. There is some notion that when someone works from home (WFH) they are somehow working less.
As a consultant, I am typically working on site with a client or working from my humble abode. While there are some great advantages attached to working from home, for me: the ability to save money for instance. Somehow the misconception that working from home means that you get to lay out all day in your pajamas found its way into existence. I am so tired of people making side comments about my working from home when they don’t understand that it usually means my days start way earlier and end a lot later than the average 9 to 5pm. The time most people spend commuting to and from work, I spend working my ass off. I also never truly leave my office. So if the need arises, I’m technically on call at all times.
So, please, when talking to your friends about WFH, don’t try to belittle them just because they didn’t have to walk into an office building this morning!
